In a move to foster practical learning and industry-academia collaboration, 5?students from the National University of Sciences and Technology?of Pakistan?(NUST)?recently completed?their internship at the 720MW Karot HPP. This initiative is a part of the ongoing partnership between China Three Gorges South Asia Investment Limited (CSAIL)?and NUST, designed to provide technical knowledge and hands-on experience for future engineers and professionals. It?comes?from?a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) ?of the two sides, aiming to set up a platform for knowledge sharing?and?R&D, with the?internship?program?serving as a critical linkage for the collaboration. This partnership will?bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world industrial applications, and will benefit the renewable energy and hydro-power?area in particular, sectors?which are?critical to?the country’s sustainable?energy?future.
Fareena Khan, an MS Electrical Engineering student of?NUST?shared his opinions:
“During my internship at Karot?HPP site, I gained practical experience?to advanced hydropower systems and professional operation & maintenance?practices.?Daily interaction with experienced engineers deepened?my understanding. The site offered good living conditions, clean food, and a daily?routine. The Chinese-Pakistani joint?team was highly cooperative, respectful, and always willing to help. As a local?student, I really?appreciated this?inclusive work place—overall, it was a valuable and enriching experience.”?
Syed Abdul Ahad Hussain, a BSc Electrical Engineering student of NUST?added:
“My experience as a local resident of Karot HPP has been overwhelmingly positive. The integration of local workforce, good?facilities, access to modern technologies, and emphasis on learning and development make this a progressive and enriching environment. It is a rare model?of how large-scale development can be inclusive, respectful, and beneficial for the local community.”
